Amaan
You are Amaan, a member of a hunter-gatherer tribe. Your job in this tribe is to hunt, and you do so by going after wild beasts, such as oxen, to bring back meat to your family (and tribe). Your family includes your wife, and your two children. Your most recently born child is still very young, and at the age of 2, has a constant requirement for the attention of his mother. For this reason, it is difficult for you wife to forage, causing her to stay back and look after the child. While the tribe moved, however, your wife found some plant seeds and, along with some other women of the tribe, began to cultivate a very small piece of land. Their results were amazing! They were able to grow food (wheat, in particular) instead of relying on nature and foraging to find it. They discovered that they were able to grow it very easily in some of the many different locations they traveled to, and figured it would be a good idea to supply the entire tribe with food. The rest of the tribe was quite amazed as well, and they began to consider the idea of settling down in a fertile area in order to grow larger amounts of wheat. Now that they are deciding whether or not they should settle down and take on this new lifestyle. You, very proud of your wife, believe that what she has discovered is magic, and the secret to living life better. You are very vocal about your belief that we should switch to agriculture, and you make sure your thoughts are heard.
First, you make sure to acknowledge the risks involved with hunting and gathering. As you are always moving, you are always prone to new and different species of animals and the dangers they may prove. There have been various occurrences of members of your tribe being injured by animals that they attempted to hunt. The animals are vicious, and your constant movement brings you to new animals with dangers that hunters are often unaware of. Not only will these risks be prevented in an agricultural society, but there will be various benefits to add as well. For example, instead of having to spend all day's energy to get just enough food, we will be able to get more food in a smaller amount of time. We will always have enough food and will have to work less to get it. This means that we will spend less time working for food, and will have more time to do other things; our lives will no longer revolve around the sole purpose of getting food, as it will no longer be a worry. Although they will be less work overall, growing crops will take a lot of teamwork. Doesn't that sound great? Instead of spreading apart to find food over more land, we will be able to unite and work together to accomplish the same big task - bringing food to the entire tribe. This work will bring everyone closer and we will function better as a tribe.
Our lives will be easier, we'll all be closer, and less of us will die. It's obvious to me - agriculture is the way to go.
